WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CHOOSE THIS ACTIVITY?

Far too often, students ask their teachers, “when will we ever use this in real life?” because the material being taught in their classes are found inapplicable to daily situations. We have witnessed countless peers caught between the desire to achieve a good grade and fight a lack of motivation for the subject- but there never was an option to learn solely based on intellectual hunger. Instead of being taught financial literacy, basic life skills, and how to think critically in any given situation, we are thrown multiple choice tests, packets, and monotonous lectures. Useless assignments have drenched any thirst and passion for knowledge out of us. We've been beaten down by outdated, irrelevant, educational standards. But we refuse to allow our broken schooling to push us into stagnation.

WHAT ARE YOUR SHORT TERM GOALS?

Through research, blogs and impactful projects, we plan to be actively engaged in discerning topics relevant to high school students, creating opportunities for more dynamic and engaging education. We plan to create our own alternative high school courses, informed by our peers and backed by independent research, that focus on practicality and critical thinking through student-taught seminars and interactive discussions. We wish to spread global knowledge and activate our peers about topics in the world that require intensive analysis. Discussions and seminars regarding politics, financial literacy, major-intensive topics and basic life skills are what we would believe to be truly beneficial to our local community.

WHAT'S YOUR PERSONAL INVESTMENT IN THIS ORGANIZATION?

We are not creating this project from the viewpoint of spectators- we've fought in the trenches of a dying education system that has not prepared us to critically think or gage the skills needed for 21st century careers. As students, we could not stand by and continue to watch our peers lose the same battles we had to fight for years. Education needs innovation. We are personally invested in rEDone because as we progressed through high school, we realized that we were not being prepared for future careers and adult life. We have been investing almost all of our time at school to complete busywork and analyze plots of century-old texts written by outdated authors. We have been investing all of our time striving to be “successful” in a failing education system that has rarely taught us any skills directly related to our personal lives, let alone any future careers.

OUR MISSION

WHAT ARE YOUR LONG TERM GOALS?

Our ultimate goal is to change our educational system and standards. We envision a versatile and relevant schooling structure that caters to the individual talents of each student, making school an enjoyable atmosphere rather than a dreadful place we go simply because we have to. Our hope is that our future education system teaches coming students interdisciplinary mastery among topics regarding basic life skills along with passion and creativity based curriculum. We wish to live in a country where our students are inspired to better understand their identities and place in the world and overcome aggravating learning obstacles. We have no doubt that education not only can, but should be entertaining, flexible and meaningful; who's better to cultivate the educational revolution than students themselves?
