Creative Arts education in the current US school system leaves students uninterested and uninspired to create and pursue a career in any artistic field. As a student specifically looking for a solid musical theatre program, I found myself doing nothing but playing the same four improv games and making attempts to over analyze what Shakespeare meant when he wrote “wherefore art thou Romeo”. I would thrive in a classroom that studies modern musicals and new composers, along with how the composition of music has changed from the golden era broadway to modern day. I feel as though anyone, including those not interested in theatre, would benefit from taking

a look at the lessons behind musicals and how the era they are produced in heavily influence the topics they tackle. Those who are passionate about the arts will find it within everything, however I find it most disappointing that those who aren’t immediately drawn to those subjects will never get the chance to experience such things. Educators should be encouraging students to think freely, dream big, and create often. Careers in business and mathematics are certainly not the only options, and quite frankly careers in the arts are becoming a more interesting and viable choice for the people who are our future.
