WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CHOOSE THIS ACTIVITY?
SCROLLING THROUGH TWITTER ONE DAY AMIDST ALL OF THE CELEBRITY DRAMA IN THE UNITED STATES, I CAME ACROSS A CNN STORY REGARDING THE SYRIAN REFUGEE CRISIS. COMPLICITLY WATCHING THE VIDEO OF A LITTLE SYRIAN BOY ON THE STREETS OF TURKEY PLAYING THE FLUTE TO EARN SOME FORM OF MONEY TO SURVIVE WAS ABSOLUTELY HEARTBREAKING. I THEN IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT EVERY TIME I ACCESS A SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM (EX: SNAPCHAT, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM, ETC.), ONLY THE TOP HOLLYWOOD SCANDALS WOULD EMERGE BEFORE MY EYES. INSTEAD OF HAVING THE CONVENIENT OPPORTUNITY TO EDUCATE MYSELF ABOUT CRUCIAL TOPICS SUCH AS CHILDREN BEING SEPARATED FROM THEIR FAMILIES AT THE U.S.-MEXICO BORDER, SOCIAL MEDIA AND CELEBRITY JOURNALISM CATERS TO THE PUBLIC ONLY THE DRAMA OF THE WORLD. ALTHOUGH THESE TOPICS ARE INDEED IMPORTANT TO DAILY ENTERTAINMENT, I FOUND IT UNACCEPTABLE THAT STORIES REGARDING SUFFERING REFUGEES AND THEIR CHILDREN GO COMPLETELY UNNOTICED. WITH THIS IN MIND, I DECIDED TO CREATE MUDDY WATERS; THE ACCESSIBILITY TO TECHNOLOGY AND INFORMATION WE HAVE TODAY MADE THE TASK OF BRINGING "LESS" IMPORTANT GLOBAL ISSUES TO LIGHT CRUCIAL FOR ME TO PROVIDE THE NEWS AND THE BURIED STORIES OF TODAY.
